Huehuetenango is one of the highest and driest coffee-growing regions in Guatemala. However, the area is protected from frost during the coldest months of the year thanks to a warm wind that blows into the mountains from the Tehuantepec plains in Mexico.

The extreme remoteness of Huehuetenango means that almost every producer processes their own coffee. Fortunately, the region is blessed with countless rivers and streams, allowing wet mills to be set up almost anywhere.
